We are Erin and Jean-Baptiste, an Anglo-Franco couple with a love and respect for old buildings and French heritage. Our dream is to restore this beautiful château and bring it back to its former glory for future generations to enjoy it for years to come. In another life, Erin is a hospital doctor and Jean-Baptiste is a mechanical engineer. You may have spotted us on Channel 4’s “Escape to the Chateau : DIY” TV series! Our events and stays in our holiday cottages contribute to the restoration and maintenance of this magnificent French monument.

Weddings at The Château de Bourneau
The Château de Bourneau is situated in the heart of Vendéen legends and inspired by the Château d’Anet which was built by a king for his love of a lady. Is there a more romantic place to declare your love for one another?

The Château’s Renaissance splendour of turrets, entoured by moats and set in a beautiful rural location is the perfect setting for an elegant and romantic celebration.

The Château de Bourneau is easily accessible with only an hour’s drive from 3 international airports (Nantes, La Rochelle and Poitiers) with direct international flights across Europe and 45mins from the TGV in Niort and only 12mins from A83 motorway exit.

We can host both the Wedding Ceremony and the Reception at the Château de Bourneau in a variety of locations to suit your unique style.

Ceremonies Inside the Château
Our Yellow Salon can accommodate ceremonies of up to 100 guests. For intimate ceremonies, the adjoining Library can also accommodate ceremonies of 20-30 guests.

Church & Religious Ceremonies
The newly refurbished and charming Roman Catholic church of Saint Jean-Baptiste de Bourneau, built in 1064, is also within walking distance of the chateau and available for Catholic weddings and blessings

Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies
The 16 hectare estate can provide the blank canvas inspiration for your own personalised ceremony. Under the boughs of the chestnut trees within the wildflower meadow, the ruins of the 18th century orangery, the cool beauty of our woodlands under a natural cathedral of trees or even on the bridge over the moat surrounded by roses in front of the Château – let your imagine be our guide.

The Reception

Inside the Château
The Yellow Salon and Library within the Château can host more intimate affairs. The Yellow Salon can host 65 guests for dinner. The adjoining library’s original gothic dining table can seat up to 25.

Marquee
Beautiful marquees on the lawn in front of the château can accommodate weddings of up to 400 guests. Varying styles are available with local suppliers.

We are lucky to be situated in the second sunniest region in France and an open air wedding in front of the château is magical. However, we advise marquee hire for the evening and to accommodate a weather Plan B, if your numbers are bigger than our own function rooms can accommodate.

Accommodation
We have on site accommodation for 42 guests (based on 2 people sharing a room) across 4 large holiday cottages, each with their own private garden and swimming pool.

There is also a sumptuous honeymoon suite in the château with an adjoining private solarium for the bride and groom to take breakfast overlooking the moat.

There are also other gîtes and surrounding B&Bs and hotels in the area that are able to accommodate other guests.

The elegant and romantic setting of the Château de Bourneau is the perfect wedding venue for a stylish and dynamic celebration.

Hen dos
Our large holiday cottages are made for big get-togethers and are perfect for hen-dos. Each cottage can sleep between 8 and 12 people or 42 as a whole group.

From wine tasting to French culinary courses, clay pigeon shooting, yoga to landscape painting, we can organise a personally tailored hen-do for the classy bride. Get in touch!

Holiday Cottages
Nestled in the Château de Bourneau’s private park and woodland of 16 hectares, the Château’s original outhouses have been sensitively converted into four large holiday cottages for a total sleeping capacity of forty two.

Each cottage offers a perfect escape to nature in the unspoilt Vendéen countryside. They all have their own private garden and swimming pool, sleep between 8 and 12 people and are perfect for big family stays or any special occasion. They are available for a minimum stay of two nights and from Saturday to Saturday weekly lets during the high season (August).

We are delighted to support a local community charity for all our laundry and ironing services. Our tarif includes the bedding, two towels per person, the travel tax as well as the cleaning fee.
